Imagine... a vital downtown with different sculptures displayed every year.
...Castlegar citizens choosing what they want displayed in our community.
...local and international artists competing in Castlegar for thousands of dollars in prize money.
...city leaders and community volunteer groups working together in the planning and selection of sites for sculptures to be placed downtown.
...business leaders bringing together culture and commerce and helping to manage the project.
...attracting tourists to our annual international showcase and giving them the opportunity to see how this community has come together.
...local artists being recognized among the leaders in building a new community identity.
...the cultural and economic benefits to Castlegar and the surrounding communities.
Don't just Imagine...Sculpturewalk has arrived. The idea originated with the Castlegar Communities in Bloom volunteers who were inspired by the internationally recognized Sculpturewalk program in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. CCIB launched this legacy project by providing a sculpture placed in Spirit Square. "We want to get people excited and talking about this project" said Gail Hunnisett, member of the local Communities in Bloom group. Sculpturewalk Castlegar is organized and run by volunteers with help from the many community businesses supporting the program with in-kind contributions. The Scultpurewalk group is building on its initial partnerships. "We are inviting any groups or individuals who are interested in making this the best outdoor public sculpture program in Canada to join us," said Pat Field, the project's volunteer manager, "Our goal is to have the whole community involved."
