Born in Calgary, Sooke-based artist Trinita Waller moved to BC as a young adult to pursue her dream of going to art school. Her background in sculpture led her to the Vancouver film industry, where she used her sculpting skills to work in film and television series art departments.
Helen the Greater is an abstraction based on human form – the balance of positive and negative shapes presents to the viewer a whole torso created of half of the parts. The shape that emerges from the hard stone is soft and flowing, a seeming contradiction that demonstrates her mastery.
