Kate Ford

Salt Spring Island, BC

This piece is a reminder of the fragility, as well as the awe-inspiring resilience of nature. Although much damage has been done, it is not too late to preserve what remains.

Based on Salt Spring Island, Kate has a decade of experience working with metal in all forms, from industry to art. In 2015, she moved to Nelson to study in the Sculptural Metal Art program at Kootenay Studio Arts, immersing herself in the arts of blacksmithing and bronze casting. Her work is largely inspired by the raw beauty of the forests and oceans of British Columbia.

A statement on the fragility and resilience of nature, Crude Accommodations depicts a hermit crab making a home from a discarded oil drum.
